Shaw University Captures Women's DI Soccer National Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – tournament MVP Ellie MacDonald scored the opening goal and assisted on the final one as Shaw defeated Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 3-0 to win the 2023 USCAA Women’s Division I Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears got on the board at 16:09 as MacDonald scored on a breakaway for the early 1-0 advantage.

A little over 10 minutes later, Victoria Hines was taken down inside the penalty box and converted the penalty kick for a 2-0 Shaw lead at the 26:19 mark.

In the second half, Shaw got the final tally as MacDonald connected with Jasmine Brake for the third goal of the match at 63:44.

On the night, Shaw outshot Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 22-8 with a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Paige Ellis earned the clean sheet for Shaw with two saves in the final.
